Fantastic experience: I did my EDT classes with James , he is really experienced and made me aware what I could expect in test. After EDT lessons I felt confident to drive on the Irish road. He is a very lovely person and ready to answer my call even on holidays, or clear any doubt . He is very clear about what to do in each kind of traffic conditions and that's what is expected as well. I learned some bad habits watching you tube videos and learning some things which were not required like GOSHO for move off, but jame cut it short which was more natural like MIB(REAR Mirror , SIDE MIRROR , INDICATOR, BLIND SPOT AND MOVE OFF) That's was quite natural and fast His tips are the actual thing which the tester expects in the test . I passed my test with only 2 grade 2 only. Thanks James

Fantastic experience: The day before my test I was rusty on the rules of the roads and needed a refresher lesson before. By the end of the lesson my skills improved greatly which prepared for the test the following day which I passed! Fantastic experience: Did my 12 lessons with a different instructor but did pre-tests with James. There's no chance I would've passed first time if it wasn't for him. So much knowledge of exactly what the examiner looks out for and knows exactly what's going wrong when you're finding something difficult or cutting out. Really recommend!

Fantastic experience: Passed my test! Only 45mins I drove with James (that's all the time I had in hand) and he gave me soo detailed observations and made me aware of points I needed to work on to pass my test, even after the pre-test was over he was determined to share important videos and information to help clear my test. He analyzed my past test results to give me tips and point my weaknesses I really needed to work on. (Never saw anyone doing that before) I wish I had come to James sooner. Fantastic experience: James me a confident driver and helped me to pass my driving test. I would really recommend if looking for lessons. He makes you feel comfortable in the car and always gives great pointers for you to work on between each lesson. Couldn’t recommend enough.

Negative experience: Unfortunately I did not have the best experience with James. It could be the lack of my confidence in a vehicle, however the idea of this lesson was to increase my confidence and instead it really deflated it. I was very nervous doing the lesson, and I pointed that out as soon as James got in my car. I had to cut the lesson short, as I did not feel that his way of teaching suited me.

Fantastic experience: 10/10 for James! I did a couple of pre test lessons with him before my test and I managed to pass my driving test first time! He showed me everything that could possible come up during the test and gave me lots of useful tips. Can’t wait to get my full license on the post this week. Thanks James!

Fantastic experience: James is an amazing instructor, I was doing my first driving test and was both nervous and apprehensive. I had heard great feedback from a family friend about James as an instructor. I had a test coming up and with short notice he prioritised pretests and assisted in getting me to pass first time. I had picked up bad habits previously but James was quick to notice and put a stop to them, he is patient and understanding while also being firm with his repetition. If it wasn’t for James I most definitely wouldn’t have passed my test, let alone first time! I would definitely recommend James to anyone who’s a learner, a nervous driver, someone practicing for their first test of looking to clean up on bad habits.

Fantastic experience: Passed my driving test today in First attempt! I had 4 pretest lessons with James and it polished my driving skills to the fullest. The way he explained my mistakes with the clear reasoning, really helped me to understand the flaws and not to repeat them. His feedback after every class was very helpful as well. *James actually works with you on your mistakes* and help you as much as possible by proving the material/ videos etc. which you would need to prepare for your test. Fantastic experience: I have just recently passed my driving test. I credit my success to the lessons that I have had with James Duffy. James Duffy is a patient and excellent teacher. He has deep knowledge and expertise, that has helped me identify faults and short comings with my driving, that I had never noticed. Even when I made one of those mistakes, he was always patient with me and helped me overcome them and improve as a driver. I did not pass my first two tests, but that was no fault of James. From continuous lessons and informing him of my test results, I was able to readily adapt to new driving habits and knowledge that made me more efficient both in an exam environment and on the road proper. If you have chosen Dun Laoire for your driving test, I can happily recommend James Duffy for both his knowledge, insights, and excellent lessons and pretests.

After only a month of lessons with James I have taken and passed my driving test first time. Fantastic experience: I passed my driving test on the First attempt. Although I took my EDT lessons from a different instructor 6 months back I wasn't so polished with my skills for the final test. James gave me some helpful advice and input which I worked on before test day. He even took me on the test routes which was helpful and gave me confidence. On the day of the test, I did the same as James advised me to and got cleared. I would happily recommend James & Dun Laoire School of Motoring to all those looking to pass their test with proper knowledge.

Fantastic experience: after failing my first driving test, i went to James for his help. he really calmed me down, showed me what i was doing wrong, helped my correct my mistakes, explained how to go about doing my test in a better manner and i passed the next week. a really great dude, this guy will get you to pass your test.

Fantastic experience: Recently passed my test, although I didn't pass it on the 1st go, James really calmed me as an extremely nervous driver. I have had a few instructors prior to James, all of which added to my anxiety on the road. But when James took me in as his pupil, he calmed me down and made me the successful driver I am today. I honestly didn't believe I would hold a full licence until James taught me to be calmer on the road. Just wished I had known James earlier. Fantastic experience: James is a top class instructor. He helped a lot to reset reflexes that I had by showing me what I was doing wrong and why. He gives you feedback during the entire lesson and he sends you very useful links as followup where you can go through the explanations on the points to improve. He has a huge amount of knowledge on the test, the roads you'll be tested on and he makes sure to minimize the risk of any unexpected event. He even takes you to where you'll be passing the test. On the more personal side, he really helped me to become more confident after not having driven for a long time and I enjoyed our conversations. Can't recommend him enough and make sure you are open to receive his feedback. It will make you a better, more confident, and safer driver. Thank you so much again James!

Negative experience: I'm not sure that the number of 5 star reviews accurately reflects James' standard as an instructor. Unfortunately, I did not have a great experience with James after 4 lessons but I can see where his strengths are and so would not leave an unfair review, nor do I have an incentive to be anything but honest about my experience. I mainly hope to leave a review that can help learner/first-time drivers pick an instructor that will help them, as not only is learning to drive becoming increasingly more expensive, but lsoing confidence early on can set you back a lot of practice hours. Honest points about James Duffy as a driving instructor: - Strong knowledge and understanding of the system, the test and the criteria for passing- absolutely, has done this for many years and I can't fault his expertise. - Takes pride in reviews and success rate, but sometimes stretches the truth e.g. claims success for drivers passing who may have only taken 1 lesson. Claims success for drivers who later passed after switching from him to another instructor. - Slightly overpriced: I now pay 40-45 euro per lesson with an instructor who is more focussed on making driving affordable than profiteering. - A few occasions where I thought James' behaviour was unprofessional or unneccessary: yelling out the window at a mother with two small children: "you have to actually parent your kids"; taking a phone call during my very first lesson while I was driving, only lasted about 30 seconds- 1 min. but still felt it was unneccessary. - Averse to constructive feedback- more of an old-style instructive teacher: a teaching style that works for some! Probably would not recommend if you have learning difficulties or need any special acommodations. - Can and does yell/lose cool in pressurised situations. - Did give me my money back for the two additional lessons that we did not go ahead with. - Punctual, was never a minute late meeting me for a lesson. **I mainly quit with James after my 4th lesson as I found it hard to rationalise spending so much money to merely feel uncomfortable and unconfident in a car. I had been warned by at least 3 other people prior to booking in with James, although it doesn't seem that any of them have written reviews here. Every driving instructor is aware of the high demand and low supply of instructors at the moment- which is why I booked in with James in the first place despite hearing mixed reviews. If James’ response to this review is anything to go off, you can see an instructor who is not open to even one piece of constructive feedback.
